 Tattoo Aftercare

Tattoo cleaning instructions:

  • Wear your bandage for 1-6 hours.

  • When removing your bandage be sure to take it off with clean hands, and gently remove the bandage.

  • After you have removed the bandage, clean your tattoo with mild unscented soap and warm water.

  • Once clean, gently pat dry with a clean towel.

  • Use a water based non-scented lotion (Lubriderm, Cetaphil, etc.) to keep your tattoo from drying out. But more isn’t better, use sparingly!

  • While your tattoo heals make sure to keep your tattoo well protected from the sun.

  • Do not soak or submerge your tattoo for at least 2 weeks.

  • If you have any other questions regarding aftercare or the healing process, please contact us for more information.

What to expect during the healing process:

Day 1:

  • When the covering is removed, you will most likely notice fluid seeping from the tattoo. This consists of blood, plasma (the transparent portion of the blood), and some additional ink. It's perfectly normal. Your skin will be red and sore as well. It could feel a little warm to the touch.

Day 2-3

  • Your tattoo will have become duller and cloudier by this time. This occurs throughout the healing process of your skin. Scabs will start to appear.

Day 4-6

  • You'll most likely see some light scabbing around the tattoo. The redness will have gone down at this point.

Day 6-14

  • Your skin may be itchy at this point. To relieve the itch, apply a fragrance-free and alcohol-free moisturizer several times per day.

What not to do:

  • Do not submerge your tattoo. Avoid public waters.

  • Avoid scratching and picking your tattoo.

  • Avoid over-cleaning.

  • Avoid applying too much lotion.

What to expect during the healing process:

  • Swelling, redness, and tenderness in the area.

  • It is normal for the piercing to go through stages where it seems healed but then acts up again. Your piercer will give you a time frame of when your piercing should be healed. It is different for all piercings and can vary depending on lifestyle and differing environments.

What to avoid:

  • DO NOT TOUCH YOUR PIERCING.

  • Do not put makeup on your piercing.

  • Avoid any form of tanning during the duration of your healing.

  • Your piercer will go over specific things to avoid for your specific piercing.
